There’s something undeniably magical about a wedding at Bishops Bay Country Club—the unbeatable lake views, the lush greenery, and the timeless elegance of the space.

But if there’s one thing we know as planners, it’s that no matter how much you plan, the weather has a mind of its own.

For Megan and Scott, their wedding day came with an unexpected guest: rain. But with an amazing vendor team, a go-with-the-flow attitude, and plenty of love in the air, their day was nothing short of unforgettable.

How It All Began

Megan and Scott’s love story started thanks to some well-intentioned mutual friends. At the time, Megan was living in Chicago, and Scott was in Madison. Every year, Megan and her roommates hosted a holiday party, and their friends decided this would be the perfect time to introduce the two.

They hit it off that night and, a few months later, started dating long distance. It wasn’t long before they knew they had found something special.

Scott’s proposal was just as thoughtful as their love story. Since picnics were a favorite tradition, he suggested they squeeze one in before summer officially ended. What Megan didn’t know was that this wasn’t just any picnic—Scott had a ring hidden in the basket.

After she said “yes,” they celebrated with their families at the Memorial Union Terrace, (a Madison staple and where they took some time on the wedding day to do photos) followed by a dinner at Eno Vino.

A Wedding Day to Remember

Megan and Scott envisioned a structured yet relaxed wedding day—one where they could be fully present without stressing over logistics. And with Bishops Bay Country Club as their venue, they had the perfect backdrop for an elegant yet fun celebration.

Of course, the weather had other plans. Rain was spotty in the forecast, and by the time their wedding day arrived, the skies were looking unpredictable. But thanks to an experienced vendor team and a couple who truly embraced the moment, the day remained full of joy.

And the best part? The rain eventually let up, just in time for some truly breathtaking post-rain portraits by the lake.

Personal Touches That Made the Day Unique

Megan and Scott wanted their wedding to feel like them, and they wove meaningful details into the day:

  • A nod to their holiday party love story – Guests received custom Christmas ornaments as favors, a sentimental tribute to the night they first met.
  • A custom beer for the reception – With help from Megan’s uncle, a brewer at Great Lakes Brewing Company, the couple created their very own beer for guests to enjoy.
  • A special guest appearance by Bucky Badger – Since both Megan and Scott are UW-Madison alums, it was only fitting that Bucky Badger showed up to get the party started. If you know, you know – Bucky is the best stinkin’ time!

These touches, combined with the love and laughter shared by family and friends, made the day even more special.

Why Experienced Vendors Matter (Especially in the Midwest!)

If there’s one thing we’ll always advocate for, it’s having a strong vendor team that can handle the unexpected. Midwest weddings—especially those near the water—can come with unpredictable weather, and having a planner who can adjust in real-time makes all the difference.

For Megan and Scott, we worked closely with the venue and their vendors to make quick decisions, ensuring their guests stayed comfortable and the celebration went on seamlessly. The result? A wedding that still felt effortless and elegant, and always, always, always a great time!

A Celebration to Remember

By the end of the night, any thoughts of the rain had long disappeared. Megan and Scott danced under the glow of twinkling lights, toasted to their next adventure with their custom brew, and celebrated with the people they love most.

Their wedding was a perfect reminder that at the heart of every great celebration is the people, the love, and the memories made along the way.
