It was always on our bucket list to do a wedding here, so we partnered up to collaborate on an editorial shoot at Stout’s to show the potential of what could be done here!
The day was designed to feel like a whimsical summer escape—complete with a lakeside vow exchange, a cozy picnic by the water, and a candlelit reception under the stars. Every detail was curated to bring a timeless yet playful elegance to life.
The History & Charm of Stout’s Island Lodge
Tucked away in Red Cedar Lake, WIsconsin Stout’s Island Lodge is a breathtaking retreat with a history as rich as its surroundings. Originally built in the early 1900s by lumber baron Frank Deming Stout, this private island estate was designed as a grand family retreat inspired by the Adirondack Great Camps.
Featuring cedar logs from Idaho, redwood timbers from California, and intricate stone fireplaces sourced from Italy, the lodge is an architectural gem that has stood the test of time.
What once was a private summer estate has now been transformed into a unique resort where couples can exchange vows surrounded by towering pines, serene lake views, and historic charm.
Today, Stout’s Island Lodge is known as the Island of Happy Days, offering an intimate escape for weddings, special events, and relaxing getaways.
With its picturesque steel bridge (a gift from Andrew Carnegie), lush gardens, and cozy yet elegant interiors, the venue seamlessly blends history, romance, and natural beauty.
Whether you envision a sunset ceremony on the dock, an outdoor dinner under twinkling bistro lights, or a weekend retreat with loved ones, Stout’s Island Lodge provides a setting unlike any other in Wisconsin.
Thoughtful Design Details
Inspired by European al fresco dining and soft, romantic details, this editorial brought together the charm of an intimate destination wedding with the beauty of Wisconsin’s natural scenery.
The florals, designed by Bisou Floral Studio, embraced a soft pastel yet summery palette, perfectly complementing the textured tablescape.
Rattan vases, terracotta compotes, and candle-lit vessels added warmth and depth, creating a setting reminiscent of a European countryside dinner.
The Bitsy Vespa Bar, a charming mobile bar, was the perfect finishing touch – I mean…who wouldn’t want a Vespa bar on their special day?!
Special Moments
One of the most memorable moments of the day was the private vow exchange by the water, followed by a romantic canoe ride. As the sun set, guests gathered around a beautifully set table, enjoying the intimate atmosphere of an island celebration.
