There’s something undeniably special about summertime weddings in Iowa, especially when they involve disco balls, baby’s breath clouds, a black-and-white checkered dance floor, and all at at amusement park!!!

Not only was Leah (bride) a good friend of mine from high school, she also happened to design our VERY first OBEC brand. It was also fun to visit the Northwestern Iowa region (my neck of the woods) and catch up with some friends I hadn’t seen in years!

Leah and Blake’s wedding at the iconic Majestic Pavilion in Arnold’s Park, IA, was a celebration of love, nostalgia, and timeless design with a modern twist.

How They Met

Leah and Blake’s love story began at work, where Blake (in IT) admired Leah (a graphic designer) from afar. Basically, they crushed hard on each other from a distance. Blake attempted to ask Leah out a few times but she turned him down (even though she thought he was quite the looker).

Blake’s persistence paid off, and their first date blossomed into a beautiful relationship that took them from Ames to Denver and, eventually, back to their Iowa roots.

Blake’s proposal was nothing short of perfect and also hilarious—proposing to her in a pasture that has been a part of her family since she was born (it overlooks a scenic valley of rolling Iowa hills)—while her fly was down (hahaha!!) during the big moment. A quintessential story of love, humor, and having a story to tell for the rest of their lives!

A Thoughtful and Elegant Celebration

Leah envisioned a wedding that was fun, thoughtful, and elegant, filled with personal touches that reflected their relationship and passions. The ceremony was held outdoors at the Emerald Hills Golf Course just minutes away from the Majestic Pavilion, a timeless venue that matched Leah’s vision for a classic, organic, with some vintage-inspired detailing.

Design

As a graphic designer, Leah obviously had great style and prioritized aesthetics! Deep sage green tones, lush greenery, and timeless florals adorned the space. Disco balls suspended over the dance floor added a chic and modern vibe, while a black-and-white checkered dance floor set the stage for a fun and packed dance floor. She made all the invites and day-of signage as well.

An Unforgettable Experience

Guests were treated to a lively reception, complete with great food, pretty decor, and incredible live jazz band. From the baby’s breath clouds on the ceiling to the disco-inspired details, every element of the day reflected Leah and Blake’s personalities and style. It was a lovely day, and we are so glad we got to be a part of it!
