Madelyn and Cecil Say I DO at The Lageret
We kicked off our 2023 season with some absolutely INCREDIBLE designs, and our June weddings had a similar theme: garden, wildflowers, and colorful – but done in different ways! We are so excited to recap Madelyn and Cecil’s gorgeous wildlflower-inspired and vibrant garden party vision, taking place at the beautiful Lageret venue.
About Madelyn and Cecil
Madelyn and Cecil met in college at the University of Illinois, where their first interaction was actually a year before they started dating. They totally hit it off when they met at a Back to the Future themed bar crawl where they fist bumped at the end of the night and proceeded to not talk to each other for the next year.
But almost exactly one year later, they were out with friends at one of the classiest establishments Champaign, IL has to offer, and a mutual friend told Cecil to talk to Madelyn. He asked for her number at the end of the night and the rest was history! 🙂
The Proposal
It was almost the middle of the night and they were at the Grand Canyon. Cecil asked Madelyn to go on a walk to see the stars and was acting super weird and nervous. Madelyn agreed to go with, and they walked along the rim of the canyon until they were far away from any light, and watched the stars for a bit (and she also made Cecil promise to not throw her off the side, haha!)
Suddenly, after much muttering to himself, Cecil got down on one knee and popped the question! It was so dark that Madelyn didn’t see any of it happen, but it was personal, wholesome and perfect for them!
A Veil of Wildflowers!
The initial design was inspired by Madelyn’s veil! It set the tone for the rest of the wedding. Like we said before, “wildflowers” and “garden” theme can really go a lot of different directions, so we wanted to ensure that Madelyn and Cecil’s wedding design matched their personalities (very laid-back but also adventurous) and was overall cohesive, which was one of Madelyn’s biggest pain points.
Bringing their garden party vision to life was SO fun. We didn’t aim just for knockout aesthetics, but also strived to create an atmosphere resonating with Madelyn and Cecil’s desire for an organic day, which meant a wedding that naturally unfolded and everyone felt at ease, but also had structure. And yes, of course, it also happened to be very nature-inspired in design.
Their dream celebration embraced an organic, elegant, whimsical vibe complementing The Lagaret’s industrial charm. Their earthy yet vibrant palette was the perfect fusion of warmth and boldness.
An Absolutely Beautiful and Heartfelt Day
Madelyn and Cecil wanted a wedding planner who could understand their vision, offer vendor suggestions, and navigate planning amidst their busy lives. Once all the design elements came together, we were in serious awe over the hanging floral, and the overall ambiance, so beautifully captured by Ali Kemp. It was such an amazing day, and we are so glad we got to design and plan their day.
If you’re struggling to make your wedding design cohesive and know you don’t want to manage all of the moving parts of a wedding day, don’t be shy – we’re your design and planning girls!
