The Proposal
Kira and David knew each other in high school but didn’t end up sparking their love interest until later on in college. Not even knowing they attended the same college, on Kira’s birthday she added David on Snapchat in hopes that he would wish her a happy birthday.
They quickly found out that they attended the same college and became friends immediately, developing into a relationship soon after. That following spring, David and Kira went to the pier in James Madison Park, and David proposed during the sunset on Kira’s birthday, a year after they started talking :’)
The Palette
This earthy wedding design was nothing short of a dream. Focusing on a warm, neutral color palette – Kira wanted her florals to look organic and natural, mixing in pops of terracotta and burgundy. With the help of Briar Loft and Event Essentials, Kira’s vision was brought to life.
Each table was decorated with a custom menu/table number, taper candle, bud vase, and terracotta votives to complete the full look. Paired with fruitwood chairs and terracotta napkins, everything was *chef’s kiss*. Floral focused on combining fresh buds with dried grasses creating the perfect combo for this September day.
The Party
With much of David’s family being from Tanzania, they knew they wanted to incorporate parts of a culture so special to them into their big day. From ululations during the ceremony to the traditional dance around the bride and groom, this day was unforgettable.
Let’s not forget to talk about the food – it was important to Kira and David that Tanzanian food was a major part of the palette.
Cocktail hour started out strong with the best beef sambusas and spinach and feta spanakopita we have ever had, thanks to Garver Feed Mill’s in-house catering crew. Followed by a family-style meal of beef Pilau with jasmine rice and kachumbari slaw, chicken thighs and legs with mustard vinegar barbecue sauce, roasted potatoes and heirloom squash. Everything was phenomenal!
Kira and David had the most wonderful MC, Tama, leading us throughout the night. The evening started with a photo challenge where they stopped at each guest table to get a photo before the end of the song – so fun!
Followed by an amazing meal, Kira and David were presented with a beautiful gift from their family and first dances with their parents. They ended their night with a private last dance to “At Last” by Etta James. We can’t imagine a better way to end your wedding day than one last special moment together.
